After the Season

When summer ends, the first thing to change is not the calendar, but the load. A dense season exhales. Days that were recently filled with arrivals, departures, schedules, and responsibility begin to loosen their grip.

At this moment, we are still on Lake Como. The villas grow quiet, but we do not stop immediately. Closures need to be completed, houses prepared for the off-season, documents put in order, details closed carefully. A pause does not arrive on its own—it has to be created.

In truth, curiosity never disappears, even at the height of the season. It simply slips between tasks. I always find a reason to take a different route during a morning run, to turn off somewhere unexpected on the drive, or to finish the working day a little earlier.

Sometimes I convince Mira to take a small detour—for example, to the San Martino church carved into the rock. It is not easy to reach, but those are exactly the places that stay with you. Each time, I think that one day we will return here for a different reason—perhaps even to celebrate our wedding.

We begin to go to places we have been looking at for months from afar, without ever having time to stop. Villa Carlotta and its botanical gardens. Small towns on the slopes of the opposite mountains—visible every day, yet never visited. Lugano, finally, with its museums and a more restrained cultural rhythm.

One day stays especially vivid. Villa Carlotta. No plan. No schedule. Just coffee, a slow walk, and garden paths. The space is large, layered, alive. You move among trees and trails as if the landscape itself is doing the work for you.

If there is one thing worth saying plainly, it is this: go there. Plan nothing. Sit. Walk. Let the place gather you again. Return if you can—but at least once.

What matters to us is staying in motion—toward places, sensations, new points on the map. It is precisely this hunger for experience that makes what we do every day possible.

After the season, our work changes shape. We prepare villas for rest, rebuild tools and routines, close one cycle so the next can begin cleanly. Rhythm matters: work—pause—work. Without this alternation, service loses precision and attention dulls.

These weeks allow curiosity—fragmented throughout the season—to unfold fully. To go deeper into history, culture, into the places themselves—without haste and without background noise. Lake Como, it turns out, is endless: the more attentively you relate to it, the more it reveals.

That is what remains after the season.
Not silence for the sake of silence, but space.
Space to notice, to understand, and to return more composed.
